Are you a freshman, transfer, or returning student at MSUB? Peer Navigators are here to guide you! They are fellow students who offer personal and professional support to help you succeed. They assist with time management, study skills, course navigation, connecting to campus resources, and more. Peer Navigators are also available to assist and support continuing students.

Most incoming students will be matched with a Peer Navigator automatically in their first year at MSUB. If you have not been matched with a Peer Navigator but would like to receive dedicated Peer Navigator support for a semester or more, email katharine.moffat@msubillings.edu. You can also make an appointment with a Peer Navigator online at any time through Navigate: How to make an appointment? Whether you need support for a few weeks or a few semesters, the Peer Navigator program is here for you!

There is no long-term commitment. You can meet with a Peer Navigator as often as you need, whether it’s for a single session or ongoing support throughout the semester.

No, the Peer Navigator program is offered to all MSUB students who have paid student fees.

Peer Navigators communicate with students through various channels, including in-person meetings, email, phone calls, text messaging, and virtual meetings, depending on what works best for you.

Peer Navigators can support you by connecting you to your advisor or helping you understand the course registration process. Peer Navigators cannot provide course advising or registration PINs.

Meet Our Navigators:

Grace Mock Peer Navigator

Grace Mock

Hi, Yellowjackets! Welcome to MSUB! I first started here in 2018 and graduated in the spring of 2023. I worked in the Billings school district for a couple of years teaching elementary music and have now returned for my Master of Education. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started college, but received constant support and encouragement from the faculty, staff, and other students around campus. MSUB provided an environment of growth, positivity, and belonging, and it is an honor to be able to now contribute to that culture myself. I would love to meet with you and hear about your journey so far!

Peer Navigator

Amanda Roberts

Hi, my name is Amanda, and I'm currently working toward my Master's degree in Counseling. Raised right here in Billings, MT, I bring a unique, local perspective to my work, knowing our city better than the average student and having found many of its hidden gems. I also know a few towns that are perfect for weekends away or even day trips. I understand firsthand how stressful it is to balance studies with personal challenges, and I'm passionate about lending a compassionate ear and being a supportive sounding board for those who need it. As a future counselor, I love helping people, and excited to put that passion into action as a peer navigator for the students of Montana State University Billings.

Kennedy Peer Navigator

Kennedy Skinner

Hello Yellowjackets! My name is Kennedy, and I’m a member of the Peer Navigating team. Enrolling at MSU Billings as a non-traditional student, I experienced a lot of challenging adjustments re-entering student life. It can be difficult to manage all the new expectations as well as effectively utilize student support systems, let alone balance home life! However, it’s a pleasure to be of service to our incoming and returning students. As a peer Navigator, my goal is to empower fellow students to achieve their goals and traverse this part of their educational journey with grace. I look forward to getting to know you and sharing the campus experience.

Kateri Peer Navigator

Kateri Hogan

Welcome, Yellowjackets! My name is Kateri Hogan, and this year is my senior year in Psychology. I am a non-traditional student that changed majors midway through my college career. After a long break I was ready to return. My first semester at MSU-Billings was a positive experience. It made me want to become part of the Peer Navigator team. Everyone on campus was welcoming and encouraging. As a Peer Navigator, it is my goal to also make everyone feel welcomed, included, and encouraged. We are here to help navigate the college experience for first year and returning students. Please reach out, and we can help or assist you with the resources that best serve you. If you are unsure about what you may need assistance in, we can figure it out together. We are here to help make your academic career a success.

Matt Peer Navigator

Matt Heimbichner

Hey there! I'm Matt, and I am a Peer Navigator here at MSU Billings. I am a veteran and a non-traditional student, meaning I fully understand the challenges of readjusting to college life after spending time outside of school. My goal as a Peer Navigator is to not only assist you in adapting to college life, but to help give you the skills you need to solve any problems that come your way. Navigating Canvas, MyMSUB, and Navigate may seem a bit daunting at first, but you don't have to figure it out alone; I'm ready to help at every step of the way. If you need help managing your schedule or talking with your professor, I can help with that too. College can be a fantastic experience in your educational journey, and in my humble opinion, it is an experience that is best shared with others. I look forward to meeting you soon.

Halle Peer Navigator

Halle Leland

Welcome, Yellowjackets! My name is Halle, and I'm here to support you as your Peer Navigator at MSU Billings. College can feel overwhelming at times, but you don’t have to do it alone. I'm here to connect you with campus services, navigate Canvas, and guide you through the tools and systems that will set you up for success. If you ever need a friendly face to chat with, I'm here for that too. Don’t be afraid to reach out, ask for help, and get involved; you’ll be surprised how many resources and opportunities are here for you. I look forward to cheering you on in your journey here at MSUB!
