As a part of its mission to offer high-quality degrees and certifications, Montana State University Billings is accredited by the  (NWCCU).

In conjunction with the university’s seven-year cycle of review, NWCCU will conduct a comprehensive accreditation visit at MSU Billings on Oct. 8-10, 2025. The NWCCU review team will evaluate MSU Billings on standards focusing on student success, institutional effectiveness and mission, as well as governance, resources and capacity.

Accreditation represents that an institution is satisfactorily achieving its mission and educational purposes and meets the NWCCU standards of quality and effectiveness. The reviewers will meet with students, faculty, and staff, to provide a holistic assessment of the university.

MSU Billings has been accredited by the NWCCU since 1932. The most recent review was completed in 2018, resulting in a reaffirmation of accreditation status in 2019.

In preparation for the review, NWCCU invites substantive comments from the public regarding the university’s qualification for accreditation. All third-party comments must be received by the NWCCU by September 28, 2025. Comments may be submitted directly to the NWCCU electronically via its . Accreditation at MSU Billings

offers pre-professional and certification programs and awards degrees at the associate, bachelor's, and master's degree levels. MSU Billings also offers post-master's (non-degree) supervisor endorsement programs.

Academic Accreditation: is accredited by the  (NWCCU). Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the NWCCU indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality evaluated through a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

Accreditation by the NWCCU is not partial but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution.
