New Student Transcripts FAQ
WHAT IS AN OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT?
An official transcript is a transcript that is sent directly from your high school or previous college to à±ßäÂþ». Official transcripts are typically sent by the high school administrative office/counselor or a college registrar, either electronically or in a sealed envelope.
- If you receive a sealed transcript, do not open it, as it will no longer be considered official after you open it. Official transcripts must include your graduation date and cumulative GPA.
An unofficial transcript is a transcript that has been viewed or submitted by the student. These are often downloaded or printed from your school’s grading system (such as PowerSchool) and emailed, mailed, or uploaded by the student.
- MSUB may use unofficial transcripts for course placement, but your official transcript/s are required to lift your holds.
A diploma is NOT the same as a transcript. A diploma confirms you completed high school, while a transcript provides a detailed record of your courses, grades, GPA, and graduation date.
TRANSFER STUDENTS
Transfer students must submit official transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities. Transcripts should be sent directly to à±ßäÂþ» through a secure electronic service (such as Parchment or National Student Clearinghouse) or mailed directly from the institution(s). Students may also provide a transcript mailed to them if the envelope remains sealed; opened, forwarded, or faxed transcripts will be considered unofficial.
To receive financial aid, transfer students with fewer than 60 semester credits (72 quarter credits) must submit an official high school transcript. Students with an associate degree or 60+ credits are exempt.
DUAL ENROLLMENT
If your dual enrollment courses were taken through à±ßäÂþ», your transcript is already on file. If you took dual enrollment courses through another college or university, you must submit an official transcript from that institution.
